GEO: seven practical checks for expert content

1. Start with a real question

Collect questions from enquiries, conversations and search data. Separate “how does it work”, “is it right for me” and “how do I order”. Question-research tools can help, but do not by themselves prove demand or business value.

2. Give an answer with conditions and an example

Explain what you recommend, when it applies and when it does not. For an ecommerce platform, for example, compare catalogue editing, integrations and maintenance. Do not add invented statistics or medical recommendations without appropriate expertise.

3. Make the structure visible

Meaningful H2/H3 headings, concise paragraphs and tables for real comparisons help readers. Make essential information available as text. Structured data describes the content; it is not a special ticket into a generated answer.

4. Connect the answer to the next need

An informational article can lead to a detailed service or a relevant case study. Avoid interrupting every paragraph with a sales prompt. The link should add context, and the CTA should explain what will be discussed.

5. Use genuine feedback with permission

Customer photographs and references can support trust when authentic and permitted for use. Do not promise that a volume of reviews or social posts automatically leads to AI citations. Do not buy positive feedback.

6. Explain who knows and how they know

Identify the author and their actual experience. Support technical claims with primary sources. E-E-A-T is a framework for assessing quality and trust, not a public numerical score that can be raised by adding a few fields.

7. Maintain and measure with clear limits

Revise the material when something meaningful changes, not just its date. Record checks of AI answers under comparable conditions. Compare observed references with visits and enquiries where reliable data exists. Separate unknowns from measurements.

What still matters from SEO?

Crawling, indexing, internal links and useful content remain foundational. Google does not require special optimization for AI Overviews or AI Mode. GEO is practical editorial work when it improves information, not a justification for a new layer of promises.
